Dusting Off Christmas (Poem)

As you dust off Christmas decorations,

And boost your holiday aspirations,

Revisit the hope of this season's glory.

Dust off your Bible, and read Christ's birth story.

On this story all human history pivots.

A baby, born in a time of ruling despots,

Came to give us the kind of peace we needed—

Peace with God so our sins could be deleted.

Into this ole dusty world He was born,

Destined to encounter our hateful scorn.

For His message of Love and fresh opportunity,

We condemned Him to die, then we hung Him on a tree.

In His death He paid our un-payable price,

So each of us could have a new lease on life—

One of clear purpose, walking dusty roads of earth,

And life eternal that exceeds all earthly worth.

The dusty chains of death could not hold Him for long,

Just long enough for us to sing redemption's song.

While a butterfly breaks out of its worm's cocoon,

He burst back into life, leaving behind His tomb!

Back into life, the price for all sins now paid!

Now, the Giver of life, in Glory arrayed!

He traded His pure life for all our dusty charades.

Ponder His story through your holiday masquerades.
