How
often does a lingering consequence,
Of sins past, erode
your strong confidence,
That your sins have
really been forgiven,
Though to you, they
have not been forgotten?
How often does
hearing about forgiveness,
Re-ignite your ‘past offenses awareness’?
Though forgiven,
are those old pains briefly revived?
Even with time, do
they still seem to have
survived?
Sins have a
diabolic characteristic.
No matter the sin,
it is deeply intrinsic.
Whether your sin, or
another person’s outright,
They all
love to act like ghosts… Shadows In the Night.

Though you have
repented, and have been forgiven,
And though all offenders
you long ago pardoned,
Sins and offenses have
lingering effects – some hidden.
They remain like shadows
in the night – if not forbidden.
To eliminate such
shadows in the night,
Requires finding a
way to turn up The Light.
Turning up The Light from all directions,
Eliminates shadowy
intrusions!
The Light of which I speak isn’t the type that’s hung.
Rather, it is the
kind you release….with your tongue!
Audibly speaking blessings is guaranteed to ensure,
That shadows of past
sins and offenses will not endure.
First, bless
you, yourself, with God’s reassuring Words,
Words that affirm your
past repentance has been heard,
And from guilt of
past sins you’ve been released,
Thanks to the work
of Jesus Christ, your High Priest.
Then bless the
ones who offended you in the past.
Ask God upon them
to bestow Grace unsurpassed,
Pray for health,
and that their foot will not slip,
And on God’s Word
they will have a strong grip.
As you bless
yourself and others very audibly,
The Light within will disperse that ghostly assembly.
Then you’ll receive
blessings that won’t be omitted,
When your
ghost
rings the bell of those…
you‘ve offended!

I read this poem and I wanted to personally thank you for creating such a piece.
ReplyDeleteI'm a writer working on a short story, and I thought of giving it the same name as your poem. It occurred to me that I may not be the only one to have chosen that title. So I looked it up and came across your blog.
If that wasn't divine intervention, then I don't know what is. I've been plagued by shadows in the night for years since I repented. Reading your poem has shown me what I must do in order to keep going.
I can never repay you for this kindness, but I pray that God will reward your efforts, and increase your talents as an instrument of His grace.
