Why Earth’s Under Siege!

This post posits a correlation between ancient sieges,

and The Lord's promised, phased siege against Earth.

In Antiquity

 

City-states functioned as networks, comprising a large capital hub or heart, surrounded by small, satellite cities. A siege against such a network involved several phases in which the most relevant peripheries would be neutralized before striking the center. During the early phases, the besieging army would target the basic needs of life—crops, water, and transportation—to sever links to the ‘mother city’. This would force many resident to flee to the capital by whatever means available. Later, successive,  direct, aggressive sieges would be launched against the capital, often lasting years, and spread over multiple attacks, aimed at degrading its ability to resist. Successive attacks also allowed the invading army to re-equip for their next assault. 

With a series of relatively ‘soft judgments’ in response to their sinfulness, The Lord had long warned the kingdoms of Israel and Judah that He would eventually ‘up His game’, so to speak, and dispatch brutal, invading armies, unless the people sustainably changed their sinful lifestyles. They didn’t. Thus, He finally did! Thus, over 20+ years, Assyria attacked the satellite cities of Israel, and later Samaria, its capital, until Samaria fell. Many people were killed or were captured to serve as slaves across the Assyrian empire. Their descendants became the ’10 lost tribes of Israel’, and were later dispersed across the known world. About a century later, Babylon launched 3 sieges against Jerusalem and its surrounding cities, until Jerusalem fell. The temple was destroyed, and many people were killed and others were captured to serve as slaves across the Babylonian empire. 

 

In both cases, the populations exceeded the carrying capacities of the capital cities. As the basics of life became increasingly unavailable, people resorted to cannibalism in desperate efforts to survive. ¹ While unimaginable and generally unknown to us today, cannibalism was a clear, iterative aspect of The Lord’s strident warnings to Jacob’s descendants, against their sinful lifestyles. But generation-after-generation, most people discounted ALL of His warnings, killed His prophets, and doubled-down on their sins. Yet they were no doubt shocked with those sieges and other threatened judgments fell on them. 

 

Across the world today,

we ‘sit in their seat of unbelief’,

under somewhat similar warnings and threats. 

 

Since Circa AD 100

 

Circa AD 95, about 6 decades after Jesus was crucified and resurrected, He, from Heaven, gave a detailed vision to Apostle John. John was to write and share the vision with the churches across Asia minor, so Christians would know what would begin to happen ‘shortly’. That vision has been well preserved and published as the last book in The Bible—The Book of Revelation. It, in particular, and The Bible, in general, iterate Heaven’s determination and strategic plan to lay siege against the Earth. History demonstrates phase 1 of His promised siege apparently began centuries ago! So effectively, Earth is/remains under siege!!

 

Curiously, His siege seems to be a planetary version of siege patterns in antiquity! But, perhaps unlike those in antiquity, His siege pattern was broadcast in advance in the form of unique warnings of judgments that would: ²

 

    • Initially fall on the most offending peoples and nations whose long-term Grace from Him will have expired without sustainable repentance; and much later, 

    • Fall on the entire Earth for the same reason. 

 

His judgments are categorized as:

1. Focused impacts, comprising famines, wild beasts attacks, wars and pestilences (with associated collateral damages) against any land/people who, during long periods of His Grace, would practice persistent sinfulness. These impacts remain available to manifest whenever/wherever The Lord determines they are warranted; (Deuteronomy 28 & 32, and Ezekiel 14) ³

 

2. Planetary impacts in response to His opening of (presumably wax) seals on His scroll (possibly His title deed to Earth/creation or His legal indictment against the unrighteous); ⁴ and

 

3. Sustained, intense planetary impacts in response to protracted ‘trumpets’ and ‘bowls’ judgments of the 42-month long apocalypse. ⁵

 

Together, these judgments, initially delivered since circa 100 across the 2nd, current 3rd, and later, during the pending 4th predicted ages of our history, are intended:

    • To demonstrate The Lord’s exceptional patience and long-term Grace to humanity, so we, collectively and/or personally, will have NO EXCUSE when we, ALL—each one of us personally will appear before Him, as immortal beings, as promised, to be judged for the quality of our lives;

    • Eventually to achieve His prediction noted in Isaiah 13:10-13; and

    • To begin His long-term process of sorting of who, as immortal beings, will deserve to spend eternity with Him on a new, eternal Earth, versus, also as immortal beings, be cast into His brimstone-lit lake of fire. 

 

By the way, just as wars do today, His planetary attacks will target everything in/on which we trust and rely to sustain life. Since OIL is ‘the life blood’ of modern life, I ponder whether the un-precedented, GLOBAL disruption of the flow of oil from the Gulf states, might be a possible preview of Heaven’s pending, planetary punches!

 

Conclusion

 

In ignorance of the above perspective, our history has been to ‘explain away’ the events and impacts The Lord pre-declared to be His judgment tactics against our persistent sinfulness. We continue to do that to our perdurable, personal peril. I trust that correlating His pre-declared Earth siege pattene, with siege patterns in antiquity, may help some of us to perceive history, and especially current events, much more clearly from Heaven’s perspective. 

 

Human sin is an abuse of The Lord’s declared, long-term Grace to us. To demonstrate this point to us, and that He is serious about judging our sinfulness, He preserved and published the sordid history of ancient Israel and Judah. Those nations were mere microcosms, meant to motivate us to perceive what Heaven has planned for the entire Earth! But by effectively MODELING THEIR HISTORY on a GLOBAL SCALE, we prove our attraction to temporary benefits of sin, is just too great to turn us sustainably toward Heaven’s righteous requirements.

 

We are poor students of history,

Because of our ‘sin proclivity!'

Thus...

What happened to them, nationally, 

Previews what will happen, globally.

It’s still true:

We humans don’t sustainably learn

from other peoples’ mistakes! 

Rather, we just fail to imagine

‘THAT’ could happen to US,

even when it’s HAPPENING right under our noses! 

We simply …explain it away…

¹ See: 10 Bible passages about cannibalism. The Bible warns of, and then depicts parents eating their offspring and/or placenta. This represents a total reversal of the created order. In Jewish culture that prized lineage and the fruit of the womb above all else, this was the ultimate sign that some people had become sub-human, which The Lord correlated to their rejection of Him, as The Source of Life.
