At elections time, folks say, ‘It’s the economy, stupid!’,
Trying others, into our political thinking, to mold.
But if it is to gross wickedness, we are mostly suited,
Fate will show we’re all stupid ones, as the economy folds.
In God’s class, Econ 101, on His syllabus,
Is nothing about micro demand and supply,
Nor is there anything about macro stimulus.
Yet it’s on such things and others, we all rely.
Top on His agenda is a word we don’t seem to like:
Righteousness. That’s His first and bottom line,
A word that, from our vocabularies, we love to strike,
And to economies, never at all align.
About the economy, we show our illiteracy,
If, when sin is on the agenda, we readily buy-in,
So greedy for gain, we rush to sin so impetuously.
Just know this: God is serious, dead serious about sin.
Some may think He’s like a capitalist,
A lover of private enterprise we flout.
Others may think He leans more socialist,
With a big heart for those who are down and out.
News Flash: He is neither one, and He’s nowhere in between.
And no matter which system a nation may select,
Here’s a history lesson from which all nations should glean:
His call for righteousness, folks and nations must respect!
Though for very l-o-n-g times, to us, Grace He will extend,
Even as we do our best, all sense of goodness to upend.
But some day, it’s justice with which we’ll have to contend,
And our economies will then suffer His …judgments’ downtrend.
Thinking money and wealth are what life’s all about,
We say, ‘It’s the economy, the economy!’
To help keep your personal one from blowing out,
God says, ‘Be sure to remember Me, remember Me’!
So let’s be mindful to open our spiritual eyes,
As we toil and sweat in our economic workrooms.
It’s only then will we all increasingly recognize,
Un-repented sin. That’s …’the elephant in the room’.
