Nighttime Light (Poem)

‘Raise your rod…!’, God told Moses on that day,

This, a seed of power He’d soon display.

Moses did exactly what He was told.

Re. the rest, a bill of goods we’ve been sold.

In the great movie, The Ten Commandments,

There are pivotal missing components,

About how pharaoh attacked his freed slaves.

This warps understandings of how God saves.

Egypt’s army found their slaves and Moses,

Backed up against the Red Sea, defenseless.

So to overtake the slaves, there was no rush:

‘Let’s rest. Tomorrow their rebellion we’ll crush!’

Between the two camps, God dispatched a cloud.

One side gave Light, the other, darkness to shroud.

In Light, Moses ‘planted’ the seed that God had given.

O’er the Red Sea, he raised his rod amid confusion.

T’was night, not day, that God prepared their escape route,

Just when, before their enemy, they had freaked out.

By morning, they were all safe and dry on the other side. 

They saw the army’s dead bodies washed up

by waves of tide. 

Friend, there’s a lesson in this story that’s easily missed.

I’ll tell you what I see so you can quickly get the gist.

When your lying enemy thinks he’s worn you out,

God sends Light to show His escape routes ‘in the night’.

It’s the quiet of night when He can get through

to your spirit,

So you can see and hear Him say,

‘This is The Way; walk in it.’

The Light you’ll see is His spiritual insight,

So from spiritual enemies, you can take your flight.

But if it’s for you to stay and fight, you’ll be the victor,

And perceive your enemy ‘washed up’ on victory’s shore.

But walking in The Spirit, which is God’s preferred way, 

You can receive His ‘nighttime Light’ ...even in the day.
