While listening to several National Public Radio (NPR) reports about the recent rediscovery and satellite mapping of the entire Roman road network, I was reminded how those ancient routes once carried, not only soldiers and merchants—but also the earliest messengers of The Gospel. The thought stirred this reflection on how The Lord has conducted the rise and fall of hegemon empires, each ‘playing’ its part in His unfolding ‘composition’.
Like an expert orchestra conductor,
On His cue, The Lord directed empires,
For ‘lead section roles’ in His strategy.
For each one, He pre-composed unique parts,
To facilitate His ‘musical score’.
Thus, on the world scene, right on cue, they rose!
Assyria—to invade ancient Israel,
…So it would become 10 lost tribes.
Babylon—His ‘battle axe’ against Judah,
…For 70 years of exile.
Persia—to free the Judean exiles,
…So they could prepare for His birth.
Greece—to spread its language and culture,
…So His Book could be widely read.
Rome—to build extensive road networks,
…So His Book could easily spread.
The U.K.—to catalyze missionaries,
…To personalize His Gospel.
The U.S.—to globalize evangelists,
…So by masses, it would be heard.
Now that the roles of those empires are done,
He’s readied the next ‘movement in His score’.
Not an empire, but just one man it’ll be,
Who will lead the world in history’s next age.
He’ll start out great, then show his true colors,
Then say he’s God, and ‘brand’ folks as his own.
Apocalyptic judgments will follow,
And so many people will ‘be no more’.
A representative few will be spared,
To sow seeds of a new population.
As Earth’s global King, The Lord God will reign.
For a thousand years of forced righteousness.
As He pre-created roles for hegemons,
He has pre-created one just for you!
Hegemons could not decline His roles for them.
But to you, He’s given freedom of choice—
Your life’s ‘notes’ blend with His composition,
Or fade unheard …when His music has ceased.
May you choose well…
